SPaRC Spotlight: Managing Sensitive Data Under the New DOJ Rule - What Research Administrators Need to Know

Are you reviewing agreements, negotiating contracts, or supporting projects that involve international collaborators or large datasets? A new national security regulation from the U.S. Department of Justice may directly impact how certain sensitive data can be shared.

This session will break down what qualifies as “U.S. Sensitive Personal Data” and “U.S. Government-Related Data,” what types of transactions are restricted, and how the rule affects research contracts and data transfer agreements, especially those involving entities connected to China (including Hong Kong and Macau), Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, or Venezuela.

We’ll focus on practical takeaways for research administrators:

  • What to look for when reviewing proposals and agreements
  • When to flag a project for further review
  • How to help mitigate risk and avoid compliance issues

Join us to gain clarity, ask questions, and leave with actionable guidance to support your faculty and protect our institution.

Presenters:
